NaPiBoWriWee 2011 Wrap Up & Reunion Date!

National Picture Book Writing Week

Hello! Well, another NaPiBoWriWee came and went. As always, I was THRILLED by the turn-out, the enthusiasm, and the insightful comments that were posted on the blogs during May 1-7, 2011. I was also inspired by how hard everyone worked to try and write 7 picture books in 7 days!

I hope everyone has at least ONE picture book draft from our annual event that you feel might be worth revising and submitting in the future. Please keep me posted on how your NaPiBoWriWee books fare in the coming year!

In the meantime, I wanted to make a couple of announcements about our upcoming NAPIBOWRIWEE REUNION plus more news.

(Keep reading after the jump for the date of our NaPiBoWriWee 2011 reunion & more news…)

NAPIBOWRIWEE REUNION!

August 6, 2011

5:30 PM

Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel (Lobby)

The NaPiBoWriWee Reunion will take place this Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 5:30 PM. We will meet in the LOBBY of the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza (2025 Avenue of the Stars, Los Angeles, CA 90067). (Note: This is also where the national SCBWI conference is taking place.)

I know many of you plan to attend the annual Society of Children Book Writers & Illustrators national conference this August 5-8, 2011 in Los Angeles, CA. For the past few years, we’ve had an informal reunion gathering of NaPiBoWriWee folks at the conference.

Please Note: The reunion is open to ALL participants from 2009, 2010 AND 2011! 🙂

Here’s our happy NaPi reunion group from the 2009 SCBWI Conference:

And here’s our NaPi reunion group from the 2010 Conference:

I can’t wait to post the pictures from our upcoming 2011 Reunion here soon! 🙂

If you are interested in signing up for the SCBWI conference, go to this link for all the info:

NOTE: If you are based in Los Angeles and don’t have time to sign up and attend the conference, you are still welcome to attend our reunion! (You are allowed in the hotel even if you haven’t signed up for the conference. LOL! It is not mandatory to do the conference in order to meet us. 🙂 Just wanted to clarify that.)

THE NAPIBOWRIWEE BLOG REMINDER

This is just a reminder that I will not be posting regular blogs at this link until our August 6th reunion date. (https://paulayoo.com/napi)

Instead, I will be posting daily blogs at 9 AM (PST) at my main BLOG here: https://paulayoo.com/blog

The daily blog schedule will be:

MUSIC MONDAYS: As a violinist and music fanatic who often writes about music, I figured this would be a nice way to start off the week with some musical musings.

TV TUESDAYS: As a TV Producer and screenwriter, I plan to post blogs about my TV adventures plus helpful info on the industry and how to break into Hollywood every Tuesday. I am currently a producer for SyFy’s EUREKA, so I’ll also post fun blogs about our show for all our Eureka and SyFy fans!

WRITER WEDNESDAYS: This is where I will post any writing advice or thoughts I have about writing children’s picture books and novels (both adult and YA/middle grade). I also plan to interview guest authors too.

TUNA THURSDAYS: As a Crazy Cat Lady, I will post a fun picture or two of my cats Oreo, Beethoven, and Charlotte. You can also follow my Oreo on Twitter here: @oreothecatyoo

FOODIE FRIDAYS: I plan to post self-indulgent photos of amazing meals I have eaten, recipes, and interviews with fellow foodies and food bloggers about the latest trends and news in the food world.

NOTE: If you have already commented on my NaPiBoWriWee blog, please note… you have to register again to comment on my regular blog. Just follow the WordPress prompts on the regular BLOG link and once I approve your comment, you will be able to post at all times. (WordPress has a strict registration policy to help me filter out the spammers! Now, I love SPAM the luncheon meat, as those of you who read my YA novel GOOD ENOUGH know. LOL. But I do NOT like the email spammers. Boo!)

######

Well, that’s it for me at this NaPiBoWriWee blog for the time being. I will post future NaPiBoWriWee blogs as we get closer to the August 6th reunion date. But until then, I’ll be posting daily on the regular BLOG, so please join me there. Until the next time… Happy Writing! WRITE LIKE YOU MEAN IT! 🙂

  1. Hey Paula! Just an update on my NaPiBoWriWee progress:

The very last story I drafted during the challenge has been given the thumbs up by my agent and is now getting ready to go on submission! I joined the challenge halfway through (I found out about it late) and I’m so glad I did!

Thanks to you and all the other NaPiBoWriWee-ers for inspiration and encouragement. 🙂

    • Tameka… YIPPEE! This is fantastic news! Congrats! Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress. I’m thrilled you joined us and had such a productive time! Fingers crossed! Fellow NaPiBoWriWee-ers, please let us know how you are doing with your post-NaPi progress! best, Paula

    • LOL Ann! 🙂 It’s just a fun tongue-in-cheek exercise that has garnered a cult following. The basic premise is that you can work on outlines and brainstorm and really work on figuring out your story and characters, but the first draft writing has to be done in the 7 day period. It was just a fun way to inspire people to stop procrastinating and getting what Ann Lamott calls the “s—– first draft” done! 🙂 I love the 7 Novels in 7 Years… that is HILARIOUS! 🙂 Hmmm… 🙂

    • What I meant to say is “seven pb’s in seven years.” If I could write seven novels in seven years, I’d be thanking a wish-granting genie. Profusely. (There must have been some deep, Freudian slip, wish-fulfillment typo thing going on when I typed that.)
