National Picture Book Writing Week May 1-7, 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Just a quick blog to let everyone know that yes, my annual NATIONAL PICTURE BOOK WRITING WEEK will take place this May 1-7, 2013.

For those of you who have never heard of National Picture Book Writing Week, it’s a fun event I started five years ago to promote some of my picture books. I challenged everyone to join me in an attempt to write seven picture books in seven days. It was inspired by the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) folks. It’s just a way to encourage people to stop procrastinating. And everyone’s picture books are NOT meant to be perfect – I do NOT think you can write a picture book in one day. These are very difficult books to write and they require a lot of time and attention. The 7 picture books in 7 days is just a challenge to force everyone to stop procrastinating. That way we end up with at least 7 rough drafts we can then revise lovingly for the rest of the year until they’re ready to submit for publication. πŸ™‚
